A Study on the Effects of Death Education for Care Workers

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to implement a death education program for care workers working in long-term care facilities and to validate the effect of death education program.

Method: This is a quasi-experimental study using one group pretest-posttest design. The developed program was applied to the subjects once a week for 50 minutes, for a total of 4 weeks. The subjects of this study were 30 care workers selected by convenience sampling who had worked for more than 3 months in a nursing home.

Result: There was a difference in perception of death, which is statistically significant. After application of the death education program developed in this study, the subjects have come to care for the elderly with more respect and cautious attitude, and the fear of death was disappeared when dealing with the elderly before death.

Conclusion: This study can provide a framework of practical death education program for the change of positive perception for the death of the care workers who are the nursing care assistants in the elderly care facility, resulting that the life and death of elderly people in there can be comfortable without fear.
